Supporting State of the Snowpack: How Local Businesses Can Get Involved
Each winter, State of the Snowpack (SOTS) brings communities together for free avalanche awareness events across BC and beyond. These events are only possible thanks to the incredible support of local businesses, community partners, and sponsors who share our mission of saving lives in the backcountry.
Why Local Support Matters
SOTS events are FREE to attend because we believe knowledge should never be a barrier to safety. But behind every event are operational costs. That’s where local businesses step in to make a real difference. Over the summer, SOTS has grown from 4 chapters to 9 across Canada, and the demand is growing:
How to Support Your Local Chapter
There are two simple ways businesses can get involved:
Donate Raffle Items
Many of our events include community raffles. Donating an item — whether it’s gear, gift certificates, or unique local experiences — directly supports your chapter. Raffle proceeds help cover operational costs and keep SOTS free for everyone.
Become a Chapter Sponsor
For businesses ready to take the next step, Chapter Sponsorship provides direct financial support for local events. Sponsors gain visibility at community gatherings and online, while helping ensure that avalanche awareness remains accessible to all.
Celebrating Our Sponsors
We’re proud to already have an incredible group of sponsors backing this mission:
- Provincial Sponsors: Arc’teryx, Helicat Canada, Polaris
- Regional Sponsor: HUB Insurance (supporting Nelson, Revelstoke, Rossland)
- Chapter Sponsors: RECCO (Kimberley), evo Village Sports (Whistler), ROAM Shop and Village Ski Hut (Nelson), and Selkirk Tangiers Heli Ski (Revelstoke)
Their commitment reflects the power of business and community working together to make the backcountry safer.
