ACMG Ski Guide/Guest Speaker
Rupertβs mountaineering passion started in the mid 1980βs while working in Antarctica for the British Antarctic Survey. He joined the Warden Service in the early 1990βs in Banff where he started to specialize in Public Safety. Over a career which spanned 30 years he worked in several of the mountain national parks as one of the search and rescue team. He became a professional member of the Canadian Avalanche Association in 1997 and qualified as a ACMG Mountain Guide a few years after that. Retiring from Parks Canada in 2022 Rupert continues to guide in the mountains and instructs avalanche rescue courses for the Canadian Avalanche Association. He lives in Jasper with his wife Nicole. During the winter months he enjoys skiing and skating on lake ice with Nicole, or ascending frozen waterfalls.

ACMG Mountain Guide/CAA Pro/Parks Canada
Darren comes from Calgary where he grew up cross country skiing. He's now a Mountain Guide but is still trying to figure out the downhill ski part. Darren has been working for Parks Canada on the Jasper Visitor Safety team for the last year. Before that he spent his winters heli-ski guiding in BC and summers working at a drug rehab centre. Darren just bought a snowboard, which is probably the sign of a mid life crisis, or a cry for help.
-

Her background also includes ski patrolling and ski guiding. She is passionate about backcountry travel, mentorship, and promoting safe decision-making in avalanche terrain and in the mountains.

Snowpack Presenter
Kerry MacDonald is a long standing member of the Marmot Basin team, has worked/volunteered in several sectors of the avalanche industry and volunteers with the Canadian Avalanche Association. Kerry has a passion for interesting snowpacks and avalanche risk management. Kerry loves the feel of a turn under his toes and the look in some ones eyes when they understand a concept about snow or risk that they have been trying hard to understand. Kerry's favourite snow crystal is depth hoar, especially if it is properly hexagonal with striations.
