We're Looking for Our Next Board Treasurer
As State of the Snowpack (SOTS) continues to grow, so too does our need for strong governance and financial leadership.
What began in Nelson, BC has grown into a national nonprofit that supports communities in hosting free avalanche awareness and snowpack education events across British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec throughout the witner months.
During the 2025/26 season, local volunteers and avalanche professionals helped deliver:
🏔️ 40 free public education events
📍 10 mountain communities across Canada
👥 4,400+ in-person attendees
💻 6,500+ livestream viewers
As we prepare for our Annual General Meeting in early August, our Voting Membership will elect three new directors to the SOTS Board of Directors. One of our highest priorities is finding a volunteer Board member with a strong accounting or finance background to take over the role of SOTS Board Treasurer.
This is a governance and strategic oversight role—not a day-to-day bookkeeping position. SOTS already works with a professional accountant, has established financial systems in place, and our current Treasurer is committed to supporting a smooth transition into the role.
As our organization continues to grow, strengthening our financial governance, long-term sustainability, and fundraising capacity has become one of our highest priorities. SOTS is also preparing to pursue federal registered charitable status, making this a unique opportunity for someone with financial and governance expertise to help shape the organization's next chapter.
While financial expertise is our primary need, we'd love to connect with someone who also has a personal connection the backcountry. That said, experience in the outdoor industry is not required, we're looking first and foremost for someone who believes in good governance and helping purpose-driven organizations thrive.
Board participation is fully remote, allowing directors from anywhere in Canada to participate (British Columbia is preferred but not required).
If this opportunity sounds like a good fit for you—or someone in your network—I would love to connect.
Please feel free to reach out directly, share this post, or tag someone who may be interested. Interested folks can also email me directly: morgan@stateofthesnowpack.com
