SOTS EXPANDS DEEPER INTO THE ROCKIES: WELCOME KIMBERLEY, BC!

The Rockies are calling — and State of the Snowpack is answering! We’re proud to announce that Kimberley, BC is joining as a new chapter for the 2025/26 season.

This chapter is led by Simon Horton, Avalanche Canada Research Officer & Avalanche Forecaster. Simon has already been a driving force in his community, hosting snowpack update events to share timely information and keep backcountry users safe. By partnering with SOTS, Simon will have continued support to expand these efforts, helping to reach even more recreationists and strengthen the culture of safety and awareness in the backcountry.

Starting this winter, monthly events will take place at Grist and Mash Brewery, with doors opening at 7:00 pm. Each gathering will feature local avalanche professionals sharing knowledge, safety tips, and insights into the region’s unique snowpack. Arrive early to grab a seat and connect with fellow backcountry users before the presentations begin.

As always, events are free to attend, with fundraising raffles in support of SOTS.
