Too early on recording the content, and a little late on getting it out, but we are back in action with our first snowpack update from yours truely, ACMG Judson Wright.
The Kootenay Region received its first big snowfall of the season this past week. Between Halloween and November 4th approximately 30-50cm fell!
The snowpack starts at 1200m and grows with elevation to approximately 50cm at 2000m. Above that, 60-80 cm has accumulated.
Remember that early-season hazards like rocks, stumps, creeks, and logs are present everywhere except on smooth high-elevation slopes.
Getting to these areas likely involves traveling through less-than-ideal areas.
Remember that slopes steep enough to slide present avalanche hazards where smooth ground cover exists.
